Deer Valley extends ski season for an extra week!

Deer Valley Resort just announced plans to stay open for an extra week this ski season. The resort was scheduled to close on Sunday, April 16, but will now stay open until Sunday, April 23rd. The plan is to keep lifts open on Bald Mountain and Bald Eagle Mountain.

With 485 inches of snowfall this season, this ranks as the best year on record for the resort, breaking the 484-inch record set in the 2016-2017 winter. We should soon see Deer Valley hit 500 inches of snow, which is an amount typically only seen in Utah's ski resorts in Big Cottonwood Canyon and Little Cottonwood Canyon.

The Cottonwood Canyon ski resorts are only an hour's drive from Park City. These resorts (Alta, Snowbird, Brighton, Solitude) typically see quite a lot more snowfall compared to Deer Valley and Park City. Brighton is currently sitting at 699 inches for the season, just on the cusp of hitting 700! Snowbird is at 625, and with a snowpack of 148 inches, it is possible we'll be skiing and snowboarding up to the July 4th holiday this year! Each year, Snowbird remains open as long as possible, providing upper mountain ski access from the base area with their aerial tram.

The Ski Utah website has a wealth of information when comparing all of Utah's ski resorts. The great thing about living/vacationing in Park City is the close access to numerous resorts. If you have not been, try out the ski resorts in Little and Big Cottonwood Canyons - just know that on a powder day, you'll want to add an extra hour of drive time. It's best to leave early to arrive early and secure parking at the resorts before they fill up. Snowbasin and Powder Mountain are two other great options up north. Snowbasin is a little less known compared to other ski resorts in Utah, and much less crowded. Although they do not get quite as much snow as the Cottonwood Canyon resorts, it is a large, beautiful, scenic mountain with amazing terrain and hardly any lift lines.
