Could Park City actually have two new ski resort villages in the works? Last week, there was much discussion about significant plans for both the Mayflower/Jordanelle side of Deer Valley and the Snow Park base area.

As we have recently reported, the Jordanelle area is booming. And it’s more than just real estate development. Last week, New York City-based developer Extell Development Company announced it will build the first major, full-service ski resort in America since 1980. Located adjacent to Deer Valley Resort on the Jordanelle side, Mayflower Mountain Resort may be operating as soon as the 2021 ski season.

Mayflower Mountain Resort is an ambitious plan to develop 5,600 acres that are just west of U.S. 40 and Jordanelle Reservoir. Included are 1,520 residential units, 825 hotel rooms and commercial units, and 600 skier parking spaces. It will essentially be another resort town. What is unique about this project is it has been designated as an area where Utah’s Military Industrial Agency (MIDA) can build a recreational hotel for active members and veterans of any branch of the U.S. military. It would be the first recreation project in the state to work with the military.

There is also the likelihood of interconnecting the mountain with Deer Valley Resort as Extell recently negotiated a lease of land to its neighbor. This could make for a more impressive, larger scale resort experience.

The fact that the resort will be situated so close to the Jordanelle Reservoir will naturally allow it to become a summertime playground as well. Why not sail where you ski?

While plans take shape for Mayflower Mountain Resort, Deer Valley announced it anticipates submitting plans to City Hall within the next several months for a garage and utility projects where the Snow Park parking lots currently are located. This is significant because this infrastructure is to precede development that would transform Snow Park into a true resort village.
