Choosing Real Estate in Park City's Old Town
The most sought after property in Old Town are the locations either close to popular Main Street, or close to the ski runs or the Park City Town Lift. The absolute best properties enjoy ski-in, and ski-out access to Park City Mountain Resort. Silver Star is a ski-in, ski-out community of homes, townhomes and condos. The Caledonian and the Lift Lodge are based right at the Town Lift Plaza on Main Street and are perfect examples of location, location, location! Homes on the "ski side" of Old Town enjoy easy walking to the ski runs. The best homes in this community are on the "Gold Coast" which are the homes on Upper Woodside that back to the ski runs and enjoy direct ski-in, ski-out access. The homes on the "sunny side" of Old Town enjoy abundant afternoon sun, and beautiful sunsets. The real value of owning property in Old Town is the walkability and the ski access.
Old Town offers a very unique, and eclectic collection of properties that are ideal for a ski vacation home. The community features much smaller lot sizes so therefore the proeprties are close together, and all are with easy walking to Main Street. Largely a result of ongoing efforts toward historical preservation, Old Town has retained its small, old-west mining town feel. Driving up and down the streets you'll still see many original or rebuilt miners cottages. Recent years have witnessed its growth into a vibrant, highly-walkable resort town center that features enticing shopping opportunities, renowned restaurants and a multitude of nightclubs. The spectacular buildings and storied past of Old Town's legendary Historic District provide variation to area home styles and further reinforce the neighborhood's authenticity. You can view our helpful Park City Area Map to quickly see where the Old Town neighborhood is located in relation to the ski resorts and surrounding neighborhoods.
When looking to purchase property in Old Town it is important to use a local Park City Realtor who specializes in Old Town. The Historic Charm of Old Town
Just as it was over 100 years ago in the days of the wild west, Park City's Old Town remains as the heart and soul of this resort ski town community. Because of the smaller lot sizes, and therefore close proximity of homes to Main Street, this community maintains its walkability to shopping, dining, recreation and nightlife. Old Town is home to 64 buildings listed on the National Historic Registry. These historic homes and commercial buildings are what make up the colorful character of this vibrant community.
A standard Old Town lot is 25 feet wide x 75 feet deep. Some homes are built on only a single lot, some on 1.5 lots, and rare is to find homes on 2 or more lots. These narrow homes are similar to what you might find in a beach resort town, where the higher density is common near the oceanfront and beaches. There is a "mixed bag" of product in Old Town, part of its eclectic charm. You'll find brand new, luxury homes right next to old and weathered miner's cottages. You can also find many rebuilt and restored historic homes. Old Town is in a protected historic district and the guidelines to remodel or rebuild these historic gems are quite tight, and in fact have become even more restrictive over the years in an attempt to protect the neighborhood and maintain the old mining town character.
Amenities and Four Season Recreation in Old Town
Walk up and down energetic Main Street and you'll find retail shops, art galleries, fine dining restaurants, bars and other nightlife options including the famous Egyptian Theater. A very unique feature of Park City's Old Town is how the Town Lift of Park City Mountain Resort brings up skiers and snowboarders directly from the base of Main Street. Where else can you find a ski lift in the middle of a residential and commercial community full of historic charm. In summer, the Town Lift services hiking and biking accessed by the lift.
