Oktoberfest at Snowbird

Snowbird's 46th Annual Oktoberfest symbolizes the approach of the fall season, and it is one of the largest beer festivals in Utah. This family-friendly event boasts tons of activities for all ages, and with several weekends to enjoy the festivities, you will want to pencil the dates into your calendar now. Snowbird is about a 45 minute drive from Park City, making this a fun and easy excursion.

The history of Oktoberfest dates back to 1810 in Munich, Germany. In Utah, the tradition began in 1972 when a couple of Swiss gentlemen were inspired by the scenery of Snowbird and decided to bring a version of the cultural event to the Rocky Mountains. Traditional lederhosen-clad entertainers will have you dancing in the aisles, while polka bands and accordion players re-create the German tunes, be sure to listen for the Alphorns echo from atop Hidden Peak.

And there is food… lots of food and beverages to wash it down. You can feast on Bavarian classics like bratwurst, German potato salad and sauerkraut. There is spätzle, strudel, and German chocolate cake. Local breweries are on deck to quench your thirst, Uinta, Wasatch, Moab and Bohemian to name a few, or if you are not a beer drinker, there is also hard cider and wine available.

Throughout Oktoberfest, Snowbird also has a variety of activities to enjoy, including tram rides, the new Woodward WreckTangle, Alpine Slide, Mountain Coaster, Climbing Wall, Bungee Trampolines, and more. Hiking and mountain biking are also great options to take in the changing foliage this time of year.
