The most prominent ski resort rankings for 2014 are out. This week SKI Magazine released the results of it's annual reader survey that ranks North America's ski resorts in a variety of categories, from snow and grooming to off-hill activities. All three of Park City's ski resorts placed in the top 10. Deer Valley is No. 2, Park City Mountain Resort is No. 5 and Canyons is No. 10. Last year was the first in which Deer Valley, PCMR and Canyons all finished in the top 10 overall in the West and that feat is turning into a trend.

Sundance will no longer conflict with MLK holiday through 2026
Park City leaders and the organizers of the Sundance Film Festival finalized an agreement to keep the top domestic marketplace of independent films in Park City Utah through at least 2026, crafting a deal that won support from the tourism industry in addition to City Hall and the festival. The agreement starts with the 2014 festival, scheduled this upcoming January, and includes an out option for the final three years, which could allow the festival to relocate after 2023. Sundance will keep its Utah offices at the Silver Star ski-in, ski-out development through at least 2023. Both sides worked for months on the deal, almost exclusively in private meetings.

Construction has begun on a brand new real estate development in the Silver Lake area of Upper Deer Valley. The project has long been referred to as North Silver Lake, but will now be named the Stein Eriksen Residences. The developer, Regent Properties, has recently restarted construction of the infrastructure and a model home. The new development will include a mix of homes and condos for sale, situated at the intersection of Deer Valley Resort's "Last Chance" and "Silver Dollar" ski runs. We often are asked "Where is a great place to hike in Park City?" So, we finally have gotten out ourselves and have been exploring some great hikes that have been recommended to us over the years. As an avid mountain biker and skateboarder, I simply have not dedicated much time to hiking. Wow! Was I amazed to find a few of these great hikes that we have right in our backyard. A few weeks ago we posted about a great hike off of Guardsman Pass going up the ridge to Peak 10,420'. It was a beautiful high elevation hike with distant views. Both the number of sales and the median sales price are up over last year's numbers in the Greater Park City Area according to the 2013 second quarter statistics released by the Park City Board of REALTORS®. With a total of 991 sales to date — a 19% increase over the same time period in 2012 - the first half of 2013 had the highest number of sales since the first half of 2007. In fact, the number of sales is 21% higher, by quarter, than any quarter in the last five years. The total sales dollar volume is also up 19% over the same time-period last year, reaching over $698 million to date, which is also the highest total dollar volume since 2007. The
Great news for season pass holders at Park City Mountain Resort and Deer Valley Resort. The two Park City resorts, along with Alta and Snowbird in Little Cottonwood Canyon have agreed to offer ski passes to visit each resort. This will be a "thank you" benefit to season pass holders this winter.
The four resorts have set their own requirements for the eligibility of their pass holders. For Park City Mountain Resort, all 2013-14 season passholders who add at least one "My Pass. My Way" features will receive 3 free 1-day lift tickets each at Alta, Deer Valley and Snowbird resorts during the 2013-14 winter season. PCMR is located in the heart of Park City and includes 116 trails on 3,300 acres, spread over eight peaks and nine bowls. Season passes
