Sean Matyja is a REALTOR®, Associate Broker, and Accredited Buyer Representative at Summit Sothebys International Realty in Park City, Utah. Sean specializes in ski-in, ski-out luxury properties in Park City and Deer Valley. Sean is a member of the Park City Board of Realtors, and the Park City MLS, and serves on the statistics committee.
My main philosophy is to focus on a business model of quality rather than the typical agent model of quantity. Taking a page from the Ritz Carlton Hotels playbook, I believe in the philosophy that we are “Ladies and Gentlemen serving Ladies and Gentlemen”. Whether buying or selling property, I want to be sure my clients are educated on the process, and well informed on the market, so when the time comes to make important decisions, they can do so with confidence.

BACKGROUND, EXPERIENCE AND INTERESTS:
When asked what separates me from my fellow Realtors, I can surely say that I am not your standard real estate agent, and I have rarely done things in the traditional easy way. The amazing thing about being a self motivated and self taught person is the desire for achievement and learning never ends.
Becoming a Realtor was not my childhood dream. I was attending college in Illinois for graphic arts, and felt the process to be way too slow, and simply did not enjoy being there at that time. I ended my college career early with an Associates degree, and never went back, never looked back. Some might view that as a mistake, I viewed it as a giant step ahead and a fast forward in life.
I then moved to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1993 to pursue a dream of competing as a professional snowboarder. For the next 7 years, I traveled around to contests, events and photo & film shoots. I have appeared in Transworld Snowboarding Magazine, Plow Snowboard Magazine, and numerous snowboard action films. Years later, I enjoyed coaching part time for the Park City Snowboard Team. It was fun and rewarding to help some great young local athletes take their snowboarding skills and mindset to the next level. Although the glory days are over, recently I was featured on the cover of Brighton Ski Resort's season pass brochure, and was a snowboard stunt double for "Turtle" on HBO's hit show Entourage.
After snowboarding, I went back to my chosen career path of marketing and graphic design. To do this, I had some catching up to do educationally, so I bought my first computer, all the graphic design software, a bunch of books, and spent nine months teaching myself how to use it all. I then got a job at a pre-press/print company to learn the tech side of the digital arts business and was running the shop within a year. I eventually left and started my own photography film scanning and color separation business, a highly technical craft that combines science and art. Even though everyone said it could not be done outside a large shop, I ran the service out of my home, something never done by anyone individually. As that niche business faded away with the integration of digital photography, I moved to marketing and design which was my goal all along. Somehow, by chance I fell into a world of clients of real estate brokerages and real estate developers.
I was soon recruited by Prudential Utah Real Estate for my innovative marketing skills. I directed the promotion of many of Prudential’s most successful new construction developments, and helped the brokerage with their company marketing, the agents with their personal marketing, and have worked with over 40 new real estate developments – creating, modifying, and producing identity, branding, sales kits, signage, advertisements, etc. After helping so many agents and brokerages be successful, in 2005 I decided to move into a new direction of becoming a Realtor and applying my skills to myself. It was at Prudential where I met my wife, and business partner Heather Peterson.
A past design client, Thomas Wright was now running an innovative brokerage in Park City, Summit Sotheby's International Realty. He recruited Heather and I in 2012, and in 2013 we both earned our Brokers license. My peers see me as a trusted expert on Park City's Old Town, The Colony, and Deer Valley. Combining years of sales experience with my background in marketing, Heather and I have worked our way to representing large new construction developments. We listed and pre-sold the successful 820 Park Avenue project in Old Town. We are currently the listing agents for the two newest developments in Deer valley – Goldener Hirsch and Empire Residences. Adding to my real estate career, recently I was a featured Realtor with my clients on HGTV’s Mountain Life house hunting show and currently Heather and I are interviewed in the 2018 Western Home Journal.
When not working or spending time with Heather and our little girl Zoe and our Bernese Mountain dog, you can find me at the Park City skate park, biking our amazing mountain bike trails, burning laps at the motocross track in Salt Lake City, or still enjoying snowboard powder days and halfpipe sessions at Park City Mountain Resort. If you're lucky enough to live in Park City... you're lucky enough.
I truly am living the Park City dream!
