Free Summer Concerts in Park City

Posted by Heather Peterson on Tuesday, July 10th, 2018 at 11:14am.

Judging from the countless number of talented bands and musicians in the Park City and Salt Lake City areas, it seems this beautiful mountain life inspires endless creativity. The natural environment also makes for a variety of stunning concert venues to enjoy music in the great outdoors. The number of free concerts throughout the summer continues to grow each year, which makes it feel like a season-long music festival. Pack a picnic – or pick up some cuisine to go at a number of local eateries – and head for the hills with friends and family to check out some of the talent this summer in and around Park City. All ages are welcome at every performance.

There are free concerts virtually every day of the week. Here are some venues and highlights to check out:

SUNDAY

Park Silly Sunday Market
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (except August 5, 12, 19) through September 23

Main Street is the place to be on summer Sundays as locals and visitors flock to this weekly outdoor market featuring a variety of local vendors and artists. Local bands provide the soundtrack from a stage toward the bottom of the street. Relax and enjoy some people watching over a tasty Bloody Mary from Top Shelf Services’ friendly bartenders. Choose your own garnishes from the bar!

WEDNESDAY

Grand Valley Bank Community Concert Series at Deer Valley Resort
5:30 p.m. through August 22

Located at one of the most magnificent outdoor amphitheater venues in the country, the free Wednesday concerts at Deer Valley Resort are just as much about the setting as they are about the music being performed.

A special treat this summer is a performance by Troubadour 77 on July 25. Grammy Award-winning songwriters and husband-wife duo Anna Wilson and Monty Powell, formerly of Nashville, have formed this Salt Lake City-based band. Collectively, Wilson and Powell have written a dozen #1 songs, countless album cuts featured on 70 million-plus records sold worldwide. They are credited with penning and co-producing hit songs for Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum, Lyle Lovett, and Willie Nelson.

THURSDAY

In response to the growth of beautiful areas outside of Park City in Summit County and Wasatch County, free concerts have sprouted in Kamas and Heber City. Venture out of town to discover the idyllic lifestyle these communities have to offer and take in some music at beautiful concert venues while you’re at it.

Grand Lawn at Dejoria Center/High Star Ranch, Kamas
6:30 to 8:30 p.m. through August 23

More than a luxury real estate community, High Star Ranc boasts the State Road Tavern & Restaurant and Dejoria Center where nationally known acts are known to perform. On Thursdays; however, the music scene is on the Grand Lawn with Mount Timpanogos as the breathtaking backdrop. If sitting on the grass isn’t your thing, enjoy dinner and drinks on the restaurant’s elevated deck which overlooks the concerts.

Lash Larue, a fun, Park City-based bluegrass band, will close it out on August 23rd.

Farmers Market and Concert in the Park Series, Heber City Park
Farmers Market opens at 4 p.m. with music starting at 6:30 p.m. through August 23

Thursdays nights pack a punch in Heber, the heart of Wasatch County, with free music and the farmers market on the perimeter of the expansive park. Families and friends gather and enjoy food from a variety of food trucks and vendors.

The season closes out on August 23rd with Motherlode Canyon Band, a favorite Park City act for more than two decades. Motherlode famously features Dana Williams, a three-time mayor of Park City and beloved local activist.

FRIDAY, SATURDAY AND SUNDAY

Legends and PayDay Express at Park City Mountain Village
4 p.m. through September 3

The series at Legends restaurant on Fridays and Sundays features mostly solo artists playing their original music and cover songs. Expect to see full bands on Saturdays by the PayDay Express chairlift. It’s a great way to end an afternoon of mountain biking, hiking, or the various activities like the Alpine Coaster and Alpine Slide at the resort.

SATURDAY AND SELECT THURSDAYS

Canyons Village
6 p.m. through September 1

A popular amphitheater venue for many years now, there is ample seating to check out national touring acts. New this year, the resort has added Thursday night concerts to bring even more live music to the stage.

Polyrhythmics, a jam band favorite, is scheduled for July 21. Expect an upbeat, high-energy performance from this eight-piece instrumental act. From trombones to flutes, their eclectic sound showcases a blend of funk, soul, progressive jazz, and psychedelic rock.
