A FROZEN WINTER WONDERLAND

Checking out Midway's famous Ice Castles should definitely be a must do on your winter to-do-list! No matter your age, you are sure to enjoy the grandness and specter of the famous Ice Castles in Midway, located at The Homestead Resort. There are currently six Ice Castle locations in the United States, including Midway.

The very first of the Ice Castles was built right here in Alpine, Utah, in the front yard of Ice Castle's founder, Brent Christensen. He was building an ice cave for his daughter and tried out an idea of spraying a wood frame with water. His daughter named the structure the “Ice Castles” and the name has stuck ever since.

A lot of hard work goes into creating these frozen wonders, each one of the Ice Castles is a little over an acre, they are all one giant piece of interconnected ice, and weighs more than 25,000,000 pounds! The Ice Castle crews grow roughly 10,000 icicles every day and place them throughout the Ice Castles to provide something for the water to freeze to. Over time the icicles just get absorbed into the ice structure creating a one of kind frozen wonder. Well placed light inside the frozen structure makes the Ice Castles appear as though they were straight out of a fairy tale.

When visiting the Ice Castles, you will want to wear warm boots as the walking surface inside of the Ice Castles is made of crushed ice. You will also want to wear full snow attire so you can enjoy the many ice slides and tunnels. If you are bringing little ones, we suggest bringing a sled, as a stroller is hard to push through snow and ice. And of course in any frozen wonderland there are enchanted Frozen Sisters, you can meet the enchanted ice princesses and take photo's with them as you enter their frozen castle. The Princesses do take breaks throughout the scheduled time, so please be aware and be patient. On Friday and Saturday nights from 7:15 - 10:15, you can enjoy a high energy fire show inside the Ice Castles! They will amaze you with a versatile and unique show using many different manipulation props including fire breathing, spinning, hula, and more.

The Ice Castles only last as weather permits. So don't miss your chance to enjoy this winter wonderland!
